Film enthusiasts, get ready for an enriching cinematic treat this Saturday! Join us on February 3rd at 15:30 for "Screening Central Asian Shorts: A Collection of Short Films" at Usha Kasera Theatre, Old College, University of Edinburgh Embark on a captivating journey into the diverse world of Central Asian cinema as we present a carefully curated selection of new and compelling short films! Supported by Edinburgh's Central Asian Turkic Society and in collaboration with Samizdat (Eastern European Film Festival), this event promises a celebration of unique storytelling and artistic expression. 

Admission is FREE! Open to ages 16 and above. Don't miss the chance to witness the creativity and talent emerging from Central Asia's vibrant film scene. Featuring short films directed by Central Asian women: 1) "Comrade Policeman" (directed by @assel.aushakimova , Kazakhstan, 2021) - Explore the challenges faced by the Kazakh police as a state TV channel reporter and her cameraman coincidentally document their officers' dedication, debunking negative perceptions. 2) "Her Right" (directed by @saodatismailova , Uzbekistan, 2020) - Drawing inspiration from the silent film Uzbekkino (1931, dir. G. Cherniak), this film revisits the political campaign 'Hujum' by the Communist Party, aiming to emancipate and unveil women in Uzbekistan. 3) "Cereals" (directed by Mayram Yusupova, Tajikistan, 1982) - Delve into the visual poetry of ordinary life in the Pamir Mountains, exploring the Kulyab Region of Tajikistan through this captivating film. Don't miss this unique opportunity to celebrate Central Asian cinema and the voices of talented women filmmakers. See you there!
